Nga Tae

We started by singing the colours song on our blog
Then in buddy time we shared the big book T-shirts. We thought we could use this book as inspiration for our learning so we made collage T-shirts. Rosie taught us how to say “This is my blue T-shirt” in Te Reo.

Success Criteria
ü  For the collage:
o   Small pieces of paper, the same colour
o   The white paper is all covered
o   Flappy edges glued down
ü  We know at least 4 colours in Te Reo
ü  We can say the colours correctly

How I am going

I helped create the t-shirt collage

Reflection

I really like: making the the t-shirt with my buddy and some other people.

I think I need to practice: some of the colours like kiwi kiwi (grey) and sometimes I get green and blue mixed up because kikorangi and kakariki sound a bit the same.

Something that really helped me was: singing the colours song

Kerri thinks
I think you know the colours and can say them correctly. I am pleased singing the colours song really helped you and I think doing loads of practise also helped. Keep on practising and you will grow in confidence so you know you know the colours! Rememebr to use your big voice (even on the stage) so we can all learn from you.

I am a scientist

We have been learning to think like scientists this term. Learning all about plants has helped us to become scientists. We have been asking lots of questions and trying to answer them. We found out that plants breathe and drink water. We found the best way to germinate a seed – seeds need water to germinate but the plant needs water, soil and sun to grow well.
WALT: investigate
         Ask questions
Make predictions (think about what is going to happen)
         Observe and record what happens
Use what we have observed to make conclusions
WALT share our ideas

Task
Show my science learning using play dough, drawing and labelling what we can see, classifying the plants and completing the plant life cycle activity.

Success Criteria:
I can ask questions
I think about what might happen
I look closely (observe)
I share my ideas
I can look closely, draw what I see and lable the parts.

My plant has roots, a stem, leaves and a flower.
There are seeds in the flower.

Reflection

I really like: using what I learned about how plants germinate and grow to grow my own plant.

I think I need to practice: sharing my ideas on the mat and in my group.

Something that really helped me was: doing lots of looking really closely because it helped me to see what was happening.

Kerri thinks
Like a scientist you look closely (observe) and can draw what you see. You have loads of great ideas Lizzy and it can be tricky to turn those ideas into questions. Have a think about what is interesting to you and what you want to know and try to turn those wonderings into a question. As a scientist your next step is to investigate!

Making predicitons

WALT: make predictions about what I read

Task
Create a ‘movenote’ or a show me on the ipad to share your learning. Take a photo of the book you are reading and record your predicitons about the story. Then record yourself reading a page or 2. Were your predicitons correct? Did you have to change them as you read?
Remember to show your learning, check the success criteria… Have you reached your goal?

Success Criteria:
  • I use the title, the blurb and the pictures to make predications.
  • I use what I have already read to make predications.
  • I have included a picture of the book I am reading.
  • I read in a clear voice.

Reflection

I really like: telling what has been happening in the story and thinking what is going to happen next.

I think I need to practice: reading clearly because sometimes I get the words mixed up.

Something that really helped me was: doing lots of talking with the group and doing lots of practise.

Kerri thinks
What a fantastic reader Lizzy. You loook at the pictures, the title and the blurb to help you think about what the story is going to be about before you even start reading. I know this helps you to make sure you understand what you are reading. As the texts you read get longer and more complex predication will keep on helping so keep it up!

Lizzy shows excellence

We are learning all about Panekiretanga (excellence) as our value this term. We can show excellence in our learning and in our play. We can show excellence at school and at home... we can show excellence anywhere!

We think excellence is:
  • Giving it your your best shot and never giving up
  • If you don’t succeed, try and try again
  • Keep on practising
  • Do some thinking, then ask for help when you don’t know what to do
  • We all have our own excellence, and it can be different for different things
  • We need to encourage others – we show excellence in the way we talk.
  • We use our manners and share, including other people in our games – we show excellence in our play
WALT: show Panekiretanga (excellence) in our learning.

Task
Show excellence in the classroom:

  1. Using the discovery equipment explore, experiment and try something new.
  2. We love to try all the discovery activities and work
    together to play collaboratively.
  3. During buddy time work as a team to complete the T-shirt collage with no gaps, thumb size pieces of paper.
High 5 and Ci7cus learning together
  4. Use your i-time card and follow during maths. Give every activity your best shot and don't give up!
We practise our learning with the teacher and by ourselves.
We never give up!
Remember to show excellence by encouraging and including others and trying your very best.

Success Criteria:
  • I tried my very best
  • I kept on practising even when it was tricky
  • I encouraged others (excellence in my talk)
  • I used my manners, shared and I included other people in my games (excellence in my play)

Reflection

I really like: buddy time because my buddy helps me

I think I need to practice incleoding athers because sometimes I do not include athers to my game

Something that really helped me was: my mum and my teacher Kerri

Kerri thinks
What a great honest reflection Lizzy, sometimes it is tricky to include everybody in our games. Keep thinking about when you need to and when you can play by yourself.
You show excellence in all your learning. You try your very best and you never give up. I know that ohters in our class check what you are doing to make sure they are mking the right choice. You are a leader Lizzy!
