Maths - geometry

We have been learning about shapes and position words. Position words tell us where something is or where it is going.

We use words like: On the cushion, on the mat, In front, behind, the back of the class, around, under, beside, between, middle, on top, in, through, out, off.
We have also learned about turns and can make full and half turns. Quarter turns were new for us and can be tricky.

Task: Pick a picture of the blocks in a pattern (dont show your buddy). Using our maths words describe how to make the pattern. Remember to give accurate clear instructions.

Success Criteria:
  • I use the correct names for shapes
  • I use our maths postiton words
  • I  give clear instructions about position
  • I follow postion instructions

My Shapes

I use the correct names for shapes

I use our maths postiton words

I give clear instructions about position

I follow position instructions

Reflection

I can: I use the correct names for shapes

It was hard when: giving clear instruction about position

I really liked: learning about shapes

Kerri thinks

You think hard about your learning and make choices to help you grow as a learner. Great reflection Lizzy.
You use the correct names for the shapes and some of our maths position words to help give your buddy instructions about how to make the pattern. It is tricky to give clear instucions with your words when you can point with your hand. Keep on practising and it will get eaiser and easier.

Whakawhanaungatanga

We have been learning all about whakawhanaungatanga and what it means. We think it is all about getting along better, including everybody and being in a team.

When we are showing Whakawhanaungatanga we will :

See:  people sharing and noticing other people

Hear:  kind words, encouraging words like "ka pai", "good job”, “can I help?"

Think about: about other people, listen and share.

Task: Listen to your buddy and learn some things about them. Work together to create a poster sharing what you have learned about each other. Remember to practise using encouraging words, to share ideas and to notice how you your buddy might be feeling.

 Success Criteria:
  • I used kind words.
  • I listened to my buddy and found out something new.
  • I shared my ideas with my buddy.
  • I show whakawhanaungatanga in and out of the playground.

Reflection
I used kind words.

I listened to my buddy and found out something new.

I shared my ideas with my buddy.

I show whakawhanaungatanga in and out of the playground.

I show whakawhanaungatanga when: I am in the playground

It was hard when: I want to play my game and someone has fallen over.

I really liked: helping people

Kerri Thinks

Lizzy, you are a delightful young lady and you use kind words in and out of the classroom. You notice when pople are sad or left out and you try to include them. I love that you are sharing more and more of your ideas and I cannot wait to see and hear what the rest of the year will bring. It can be tricky to do the right thing, show whakawhanaungatanga, when you want to play and you notice someone is hurt. I think you do help event if you don't want to. Keep up the great learning!

When I grow up

When I grow up I want to be a nurse because I will help people when they are sick. My favourite thing to do at school is to learn new things becasue it is cool to learn new things.
I love that you have your writing book in this photo! You are a fabulous writer and a very caring and helpful High5 learner, very useful qualities in a nurse.
